Two works by lacquer artist Terumasa Ikeda are currently on view in the exhibition “Independent Study for Kids & Adults: Patterns of Delight 2” at the National Crafts Museum in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan.
The exhibition features Error403 and Tea caddy “Infinite” raden inlay, both of which are part of the collection of the National Crafts Museum.
Exploring Patterns in Contemporary Craft
Focusing on the theme of “patterns,” the exhibition explores the diverse motifs found in craft works, as well as the techniques and materials behind them.
Designed to be enjoyed by both children and adults, the exhibition invites visitors to observe craft from different perspectives and discover the richness and diversity of patterns.
Works on View

Error403
Size: W190 × D190 × H190 mm
Materials: Lacquer, Japanese cypress, abalone shell, green turban shell, gold

Tea caddy “Infinite” raden inlay
Japanese Title: 電光無量無辺大棗
Size: φ73 × H92 mm
Materials: Lacquer, Japanese cypress, abalone shell, green turban shell
Both works combine traditional materials such as lacquer and Japanese cypress with raden mother-of-pearl inlay using abalone and green turban shell.
The shifting brilliance of the shell under changing light and the deep surface of lacquer create distinctive visual expressions. We invite you to experience these works in person at the museum.
