Announcement of the Pokémon x Crafts Exhibition: Miyagi Touring Exhibition

The "Pokémon x Crafts Exhibition - A Great Discovery of Beauty and Skill -" Miyagi Touring Exhibition, featuring Akimasa Ikeda, will be held at the Tohoku Historical Museum from October 10th, 2026 (Saturday). This exhibition will showcase a diverse range of expressions using materials and techniques unique to Japanese crafts, with the world of Pokémon as its theme. Artists active in various fields such as metalwork, ceramics, woodworking, lacquerware, and dyeing and weaving have drawn inspiration from the appearance, characteristics, and stories of Pokémon, expressing their charm from a perspective unique to crafts.
Akimasa Ikeda is exhibiting works using lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay. Based on traditional techniques, his works confront Pokémon, a symbol of modern times, allowing viewers to feel the new expressions and possibilities of craft techniques and materials. This exhibition, which has been touring Japan and overseas since 2023, will conclude its domestic tour in 2026, with this Miyagi venue being the last to be held in Japan. As an opportunity to conclude the domestic tour of the "Pokémon x Crafts Exhibition" that has visited various locations so far, please come and see the diverse works where the world of Pokémon meets Japanese crafts. If you are in the area, please come and see it.
